Whanau Connect – new parents

  • A community-based early intervention programme providing one-on-one in-home emotional and practical skill-based support to parents
  • The aim is to improve the well-being of whanau with young children who need support due to isolation and lack of support
  • It is designed to work alongside professional services to support whanau at various levels and hopefully prevent a higher-level need
  • Strength-based, solution focused, to support a collaborative approach to bring about positive change for whanau when they ask for help
  • Target audience are isolated whanau with children aged between 0-5 years, however we will support whanau with children on a case-by-case basis depending on our capacity to respond
  • This blends in with our skills-2-live also provided by volunteer community mentors.

Building Financial Capability (BFC)

  • BFC - building financial wellbeing for all New Zealanders.
  • It supports whanau to achieve their financial goals and gain control of their lives to make positive changes, through access to financial advice, support, education, and mentoring.
  • Using a strength-based approach, it empowers participants to gain control of their household finances, set goals and achieve longer-term, sustainable change.

Our mentors are committed to empowering whanau to reach their goals by offering practical support. Enhancing life skills for a healthier lifestyle.

Kahukura Kaiarahi (BFC Plus – building financial capability):

Life’s stresses can become so overwhelming that sorting your financial situation drifts into the distance where your situation becomes immediate and urgent.

A Kahukura walks beside whānau to address the wider issues that impact on their financial wellbeing.

The aim of the program is to help participants with multiple and complex needs who are experiencing financial hardship to receive a holistic approach to building their financial resilience.

The Kahukura will help whanau identify their unique needs and navigate the systems to support, connect and make changes that will have overall positive outcomes for them, their family, and whanau.

All the SuperGrans work streams are intended to improve people’s:

  • Social networks, relationships and connections that will also enhance a positive social and cultural identity.
  • Resilience to cope with life’s challenges
  • Enable people to recognise their strengths and use this strength as a platform to grow their confidence, build their capability and know their value as they experience a personalised mana-enhancing journey of change. We will support them today so they can plan their tomorrow.
